Texas Threads

"The Threads of Texas are upon you!"

I finished the binding on the longhorn quilt for my brother during the drive down to Austin, TX.   My brother was very surprised by his gift and we had a lot of fun walking around the University of Texas taking pictures of it.  I also took some pictures of the quilt on his property to add some variety.  This post is picture heavy...so enjoy!

I outlined the longhorn on the outside and the inside.  I used straight-line quilting throughout the whole quilt, but I stopped when I got to the outline of the longhorn to emphasize it.

This is the front of the quilt, showing the quilting of the UT on the back of the quilt.  I used the same technique as I did on the longhorn and it adds a nice touch to the quilt.

Here is the back of the quilt.

Just like the longhorn, I quilted around the outside and the inside of the UT.

If you look closely, you can see the longhorn from the front of the quilt on the back.  The pattern of the fabric makes it hard to see it, but I still like the way the quilting turned out.

  13. What an awesome quilt! Well done with the outline quilting too. I agree that your lines accentuate it perfectly. And I love the pics on the side of the shed (barn?). They do add interest and are balanced perfectly with the star. Well done!

  18. ugh, I can't believe it's take me this long to come look at your stellar quilt. you are so versatile! my favorite photo is the top on the barn with the metal star. very, very cool.

your quilting is awesome. how fortunate that the U & T are reversible letters! I've been writing names in quilts as I fmq lately and they come out backwards on the back, of course. it doesn't bother me because it usually just blends in. but it's so cool how the UT shows up on the front in the orange. love it!

do you want to make one for my parents? pretty please? they met at UT and technically that's where I come from since they were still there when my mom got pregnant with me. =) (but I was born in Houston over summer break.)

  21. Wow, as a Texas Quilt girl that has over 20 some Texas Themed quilts, I can say I don't have one like this. LOVE IT! I do a Texas Beauties Trunk Show and may have to add something similar to my collection. I swore no more Texas quilts but here I go again!
