Spring has arrived in our part of the world. Everything is so green and new life is popping up everywhere.
My kids and I discovered this nest of robin eggs the other day. We can't wait to see the little birds once they hatch. We've also had some pretty strong storms come through. I can't say I enjoy the tornado sirens, but I'm thankful for the purpose they serve.
I also built up my courage and finally dug into an entire stack of Denyse Schmidt fabric I've been collecting over the past year. (I threw in 2 fabrics from Juliana Horner since they matched so well with the color scheme.
I have been wanting to make an x-plus quilt for a while now and thought these fabrics would work fabulously. I also pulled several gray-patterned fabrics to work at the background fabric. I cut out all the fabric and piled them up in stacks with all the fabrics combined to make up each block. I'm going for a very scrappy look.
I have almost half of the blocks made to make a twin size quilt and the other half ready to be assembled. Here is what I have so far.
I don't have a deadline for this quilt since I'll be keeping this one. I'll just be working on this one in my spare time.
I'm almost done with my starburst quilt. I just need to bury some threads and take some photos. Can't wait to show it off.

Ole Miss Patchwork Quilt
I get the privilege of delivering this Ole Miss quilt this morning to the lucky recipient. It's a full-size quilt and ready for the soon-to-be graduate to wrap himself in the pride of his accomplishments. I hope he likes it.
Now that I've posted this quilt in all it's Hotty Toddy glory, I will return to my roots and remind myself of where my loyalties lie. Hook'em Horns! \m/

Beginnings of a Starburst
This weekend was PACKED full of fun-filled activities. I enjoyed a bonfire, s'mores, and wine with a group of my favorite people on Friday night. Saturday was spent roaming around Joann's and taking my daughter to go see the ballet version of Peter Pan.
My daughter LOVED every second of it...especially dressing up in our pretty dresses. We also enjoyed riding the trolley around downtown Memphis and along the Mississippi. Right after we got home, I curled up on my bed and went to sleep early. I was so exhausted.
Sunday was all about getting this star burst quilt underway. I started with a design I put together using excel. This quilt is for the daughter of a good friend of mine who will be moving into her "big" girl bed at the end of the month.
By the time midnight rolled around, I had all but 4 rows attatched.
I'll be finished up this top tonight!

I mapped out every row and cut all my fabric. I chained-pieced lots of HST, and started piecing rows together. The quilt top really started to come together.

Quarter 2 Preview
This coming quarter is looking to be a busy one. I already have my projects lined up, and I can't wait to get them all finished.
Project #1: Ole Miss Patchwork Quilt
I'm putting together this full-size patchwork quilt for a graduation gift. For anyone who knows me well, they know I don't willingly cheer for Ole Miss much less any SEC school. I'm almost half-way done with the quilting, and I hope to be finished in the next week or so. I'll be glad to get this one out of my house soon...it's clashing with the burnt orange. Hook'em Horns! \m/
Project #2: Star Quilt
A good friend of mine has asked me to make a twin size quilt for her daughter as she transitions from a crib/toddler bed to a "BIG GIRL" bed. I have the main-feature fabric, which was selected by the mom, and I have the design all laid out. I just need to buy the coordinating solid fabric and batting, and I'll be good to go.
Project #3: Daughter's Birthday Quilt
I already have the front pieced from a jelly roll of Bonnie & Camille's Marmalade collection. I'm using Amy Butler's Tangerine / Full Moon Polka Dot fabric from her Lotus collection for the back, and I'm using the large floral prints from the Marmalade jelly roll to make up a scrappy binding. My daughter's birthday is at the end of May, so I need to get moving on this one soon.
Project #4: Disappearing 9-Patch Wedding Quilt
I'll be using Amy Butler's Belle collection, and some Kona Snow, to create a large disappearing 9-patch lap quilt for a dear friend. He's getting married in July and I hope this proves to be a wonderful gift for his new home together with his bride.
Project #5: A Secret Surprise
I can't tell you much about this one, but you'll see it mid-May. :)

Other fun projects for Quarter 2:
- Revamping my sewing room with a new sewing table, cutting table, and quilt rack. I can't wait to show it all off once it's completed. I haven't even seen it all yet, and I'm completely jittery with anticipation. I'll be posting about it in early June. I'm so excited about this one!!!!
- Making 2 new sewing machine covers that are larger and fit my sewing machines properly. I'll be squeezing this in somewhere between all the quilts listed above.
