This quilt started as an idea to utilize all the corner scraps left over from the X-Plus quilt. One day I just sat down and started sewing triangles together from the trimmings. I kept the fabrics together with which ever fabric it was already paired with when I trimmed it off the X-Plus quilt blocks. There were well over 300 HST created and they were trimmed down to 2 1/2 inches.
I used random selection to start sewing them together. I didn't pay attention to the direction of the HST. The only thing I kept track of was making sure I didn't put the same fabric next to each other. The results were amazing.
I added the teal border to frame out the piecing and contain the randomness.
For the back, I ended up purchasing some of the plaid fabric from the DS collection to give it some visual interest. I utilized some scraps of the solid navy and teal used in the front to add some detail.
The quilting really shines on the solid fabrics.
I had some leftover binding from another project just hanging around, so I utilized it for this quilt. You can find the gray wood grain fabric within the quilt, too.
I haven't decided what I'm doing with this quilt yet, so it's just hanging out on my quilt rack for everyone to see when they come over.
Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteIndeed it is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThe burst of lime add such sparkle!
ReplyDeleteoops...that's "bursts"
ReplyDeleteThis turned out so stunning, Janet! I really like that you just put it together without concern for HST orientation - and what an amazing outcome! I do love how quilting pops on solids, and I hope you get to show it off a lot. :)
ReplyDeleteI love that! Sometimes no pattern is the best pattern! Love the back too!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun quilt! and a "freebie" too! Just beautiful.

ReplyDeleteWell done! I've saved some triangles from my X-plus quilt and look forward to making my own explosion!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this! I may have to make an X-plus quilt just to make this!
ReplyDeleteOooo. I love this!
ReplyDeleteAmazing! I love the total randomness of it all, and the teal frame pulls it all together so nicely.
ReplyDeleteHi! Most beautiful and again great backing! Teje
ReplyDeleteI love it!
ReplyDeleteI have this pile of corners cut off the star blocks. Some are making them in to pinwheels. I'm thinking half square triangles.
For now they are just put to the side until I get some other projects more worked on.
What a great idea! I love these colors!!
ReplyDeleteNice! Love HSTs and such a great colour scheme!
ReplyDeleteI agree! The results are amazing... scraptastic! I love making quilts from the leftover fabrics of larger projects. It's especially helpful when the original project is a gift that you've become attached to!
ReplyDeleteWowzers! That's gorgeous! Maybe I should start using my leftover HSTs for a project like this one.
ReplyDeleteLPC
I would keep it! It's lovely.
ReplyDeleteWhat a TERRIFIC quilt from just corner scraps! I LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteStunning colors! Randomness of placement really works!!
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing how far scraps can go, when normally pieces of that size you may be tempted to throw away: throwing away a whole quilt in the process! I love the randomness of the HST placement; it just creates so many shapes to look at!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I love scrappy and HSt's! Beautiful finish!
ReplyDeleteI love this one so much, Janet! Those teeny tiny HST's are just amazing!

My favorite colors! The quilting is fab, too.
ReplyDeleteIt's really lovely! Don't you love to save the scraps that may have otherwise been tossed?! I'm starting on an X plus quilt soon and will try to think about trimming them up as I go so I can do something simliar!

ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous 'bonus' quilt! I keep my triangles from HSTs too. It's gorgeous, Janet! Way to go!
ReplyDeleteAmazing something so beautiful comes from scraps! :)
ReplyDeleteThis is so beautiful! This is my first visit to your blog and I've enjoyed all that I've seen.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I love the teal
ReplyDeleteGenius! I love everything about this quilt ~ now I'm inspired to start using all the triangles and HSTs I have in my scrap bin!
ReplyDeleteHow fun to come up with something so pretty just by throwing your scraps together. Awesome!
ReplyDeleteReally great idea and it's come together into such a nice quilt. I've kept many of my HST trimmings too, still in their pairs and sewn them together. I can't bear the thought of trimming them all down into an even size though. I tend to pause at the stage if projects I find most boring, trimming and basting!
