This quilt has been fun to put together. I've had a layered cake of Simply Color in my fabric cabinet for what seems like ages and I'm really glad I finally put it to good use.
The city of Memphis recently finished this bicycle archway for the bicycle trails throughout the city, and I new this would be the perfect location to take pictures with this fabric collection. I didn't take into consideration just how tall it was, or how close an extremely busy road was to it. It was difficult getting a good picture and this was the best one.
I liked being able to create the columns by color. I was a bit disappointed there wasn't enough pink to create it's own, but then the splash of pink throughout adds a bit of a modern flare.
This is also the first time I did free-motion quilting on a quilt. It's nothing fancy, but it was a big leap for me. I'm looking forward to growing in this area.
I found this print at Joann's for the back. It's a fun design and it brings in most of the colors from the front. My son was also playing peek-a-boo with me from behind the quilt trying to make me laugh while I was taking pictures. He's such a goofy kid.
I finished off the quilt with an aqua binding which tied in both sides of the quilt.
What a lovely quilt! And that bike arch is a pretty spectacular place to photograph it. Great job on the FMQ! You gotta start somewhere, and I think you chose a lovely pattern that add some nice texture to the quilt. :-)

ReplyDeleteYour quilt is fantastic. The colours in that layer cake really sing! Perfect setting for the photos too. I'm determined to be more adventurous that my front yard in future, especially after photographing a friend's quilt at that lake last weekend. That was fun!
ReplyDeleteHi there. I had to delete my earlier comment... I meant to write, about the quilting, "it does not need to look good" when i meant " it does not need to look fancy". It DOES look good. Seriously, i need to re- read myself...
ReplyDeleteI like the fabrics you used, and the design is very pretty. The FMQ looks good too. They say practice makes perfect and I'm still practising!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your beautifully finished quilt, Janet. I love the design you chose to show of the Simply Colour prints.... love the pink interspersed throughout. The quilting is such a compliment to the design. Good for you taking on some FMQ! Great photos! Perfect setting and great helpers!

ReplyDeleteYour quilt is lovely! Love the color palette and your photo backdrop is perfect!
ReplyDeleteI really like the quilt, and the funny child that loves to play tricks. My youngest is just like that. Were people giving you funny looks trying to display and photograph a quilt in such a busy public space?
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful! I like the pink throughout the quilt - that's more like a lava lamp.
