I tackled a new skill this weekend and learned how to reverse applique. I've always loved the way it looks and had a bunch of scraps laying around from a scrappy quilt I'm working on right now.
I didn't have any freezer paper, so I used interfacing. Although it works, the interfacing is very thick.
I'm about half way through quilting this one. With the backing fabric, batting, interfacing, and two layers of fabric on top, this is a very THICK quilting project. I'm hoping to be done with the quilting tonight so I can put the binding on and be done with it.
The binding material is the teal fabric on the top left corner of the picture. It should pop against the dark grey.
Very cute! I want to make one.
ReplyDeleteI love all of the color against the gray background. The teal will be perfect for the binding. Way to master the reverse applique!

ReplyDeletethis has worked so very well, colourful too, did you get the instructions from the internet or from a book I wonder
ReplyDeleteOh how cute! Love it!! This would be a fun little project using the name of a child for their room. Great job!
ReplyDeleteThis is fantastic! I love how scrappy the letters are and how modern and sleek the background and binding will be together.
ReplyDeleteThat is so awesome! I think I need to make one :)
ReplyDeleteReally lovely Janet. Your mini quilt is gorgeous and so beautifully colorful. Quite jealous.
ReplyDeleteAlways thought about reverse appliquing myself but I was just too intimidated by it. Might give it a go now after seeing this beauty....
I really like it ! i was going to ask did you arrange the layout of the fabric because i see that the " i and the Q" 's fabric match. even the seams match. But then i looked a bit more and see that the others don't .
ReplyDeletewell done!
Appliqué is on my list of skills to learn - I've not heard of reverse appliqué. This is so adorable - I love it! I really like the way you are quilting it too. It looks great.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great project and it looks so neat!
ReplyDeleteI am not an 'applique' person but can appreciate the work involved. I like the idea of words and have contemplating doing something with fused letters. Some day.
ReplyDeleteThat is so cool Janet! I would like to learn that too.
ReplyDeleteLooks great. I've been meaning to try this technique. Love it with letters!
ReplyDeleteAdorable! what a fun idea for a mini quilt.
ReplyDeleteSuper cute! I just learned reverse applique (6 minute circle!) and am dying to try the technique on other shapes.
ReplyDeleteThis is seriously gorgeous! I have not ventured into reverse applique yet, did you take a class or used a tutorial? Can't wait to see it with binding, I hope you are keeping it and not sending it off for a swap or anything ;) This is definitely worth having on your wall at all time!!
ReplyDeleteVery cute! I love all that scrapiness! I have never tried reverse applique,
ReplyDeleteWell done my dear! Looks fantastic
