Scrappy Mini with Reverse Applique

I tackled a new skill this weekend and learned how to reverse applique. I've always loved the way it looks and had a bunch of scraps laying around from a scrappy quilt I'm working on right now.

I didn't have any freezer paper, so I used interfacing.  Although it works, the interfacing is very thick.

I'm about half way through quilting this one.  With the backing fabric, batting, interfacing, and two layers of fabric on top, this is a very THICK quilting project.  I'm hoping to be done with the quilting tonight so I can put the binding on and be done with it.

The binding material is the teal fabric on the top left corner of the picture.  It should pop against the dark grey.

  1. I love all of the color against the gray background. The teal will be perfect for the binding. Way to master the reverse applique!

  6. Really lovely Janet. Your mini quilt is gorgeous and so beautifully colorful. Quite jealous.
Always thought about reverse appliquing myself but I was just too intimidated by it. Might give it a go now after seeing this beauty....

  7. I really like it ! i was going to ask did you arrange the layout of the fabric because i see that the " i and the Q" 's fabric match. even the seams match. But then i looked a bit more and see that the others don't .
    well done!

  10. I am not an 'applique' person but can appreciate the work involved. I like the idea of words and have contemplating doing something with fused letters. Some day.

  15. This is seriously gorgeous! I have not ventured into reverse applique yet, did you take a class or used a tutorial? Can't wait to see it with binding, I hope you are keeping it and not sending it off for a swap or anything ;) This is definitely worth having on your wall at all time!!
