Progress

I have been busy quilting and have made some real progress on my current projects.  I finished quilting my flying geese quilt.  All I need to do is figure out the binding color/fabric and I'll be all set.  Anyone have any suggestions?

I also started working on the quilting for the Sunrise quilt.  I started with the pillow shams and was able to finish one last night.  I finished the quilting and piecing of it right before Downton Abbey and Sherlock and spent my time during the shows hand-stitching the binding.  I have one more sham to go and basting/quilting/binding of the full-size quilt.

Here is the back of the sham.

  1. I love your flying geese, its lovely! I vote for a deep red/pink ... whichever is in your quilt, cant quite tell on the screen put it would be great to make that color pop!

  2. I love your flying geese quilt. I think any of the softer colours from the quilt would work for a binding, maybe a blue or green. Then it would be different from the white but still not take away from the beautiful center.

  3. I think this quilt would lend itself really well to a scrappy binding if you have leftover scraps of the flying geese fabrics. If not, I'd go with a deep purple or deep pink (coordinating with some of those darker fabrics in the geese).

  5. Your flying geese are awesome! I think they are one of my favorite blocks. I see a scrappy binding... using the colors in the geese. And your pillow shams are so cute, too! Great colors.

  6. Love your flying geese quilt - my thoughts are that a coloured binding will detract from the design so I'd think about binding in the same fabric that you've sashed with - let those geese speak for themselves! Fab sham too :D

  13. love the geese, and of course when in doubt, I always go with green on a binding, or I agree that scrappy would also look great against all of the white. the sham looks so fun too!

  15. love the quilt, I think it would look great if you made binding using all the fabrics you have used in the quilt, have you enough to do it and also the will to do it, think I a being a bit hard on you but it would look awesome

  20. Ooooh I love these geese! The colors are lovely together. I vote for either a pink binding or stripes. You honestly cannot go wrong with stripes. P.S. I am always happiest when I finish a quilt just in time for Downton or Sherlock! YAY!

  22. I seriously love that quilt! wow. As for binding I suggest using a color that is in the quilt but not a lot, or that doesn't stand out. Like the jade/teal color. The shams turned out lovely!

  27. Found you via WIP Wednesday. I love the rainbow pillowshams and the flying geese are great. Normally people use colour for the geese, I love that this is the plain part on your quilt

  30. The flying geese quilt is lovely. I'd vote for a binding using some of the left over fabrics (if you have some).

  31. Gorgeous pillow shams. I am a sucker for rainbow strips! Love that striped binding. Congrats on finishing the quilting on the flying geese quilt! I would suggest a green that matches the fabrics used in the quilt for the binding.

  32. Stopping in from Let's Bee Social and it's nice to have found your blog. I love the pillow sham!! The quilt is pretty too. What about a black & white Heath print or a small-scale polka dot, white on charcoal? Black might be too harsh but something close would frame your quilt nicely, at least I think it would! Enjoyed my visit. Thanks!

  34. I suggest a scrappy binding - it's not going to show that much, but will frame it nonetheless. Love it!

  35. Hand-sewing binding during an episode of Downton Abbey is one of my favorite ways to spend Sunday evening! Love the flying geese, and the sham, too!

  36. Maybe do a striped red binding:) It's stunning!!

  37. I say go with a scrappy binding to pull in the colors of those geese.

  38. Lovely quilt!

For the binding, I'd do a white/background binding, with scrappy faux piping from some of the fabrics used for the geese! It would echo the squares/geese in a similar proportion.

  39. Love the flying geese quilt. Suggest you use a solid bold colour to bind it like ink blue or red as the quilt has shades of blue and red.
The quilt is absolutely beautiful. i am so motivated to make one of my own :)
